Taking advantage of precisely the properties of certain foods, natural remedies are an interesting option to improve eye health and avoid some of the common problems.

Lemon Juice: Lemon is rich in vitamin C, a flavonoid that protects the health of capillaries and prevent, for example, dry eyes. It also adds lutein, a pigment to act as a sunscreen and improves the treatment of glaucoma. Try seasoning your dishes with a combination of lemon juice, olive oil, garlic and parsley.

Blueberries: Blueberries help prevent macular degeneration, thanks to its contribution in anthocyanins, a pigment involved in the repair of retinal cells and improving blood flow. It can substitute by purple plums.

Onion: Onion, among other properties, provides quercetin, a compound that prevents complications of diabetes, such as retinopathy. It is also good for its concentration of glutathione, to slow the progression of cataracts.

Wheat germ: Especially rich in zinc, a mineral combined with vitamin A and C help slow macular degeneration. Try to add a teaspoon of wheat germ to a carrot and orange smoothie or a yogurt with kiwi. Wheat germ, because it contains lutein and vitamin E reduces the risk of cataracts.

Increase intake of vitamin A, essential for eye health, improves quality of vision. Vitamins that we are going to find on all red vegetables (red peppers, tomatoes…), oranges, carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato, papaya and in green vegetables (spinach, chard, watercress, endive).

Solar radiation can damage the eyes, for example by increasing the risk of cataracts. To avoid this, it is best to follow a diet rich in lutein, an antioxidant pigment that acts as a sunscreen. We will find in foods like kiwi, avocado, corn, cabbage, broccoli, egg yolk or dark leafy greens. Herbal teas such as chamomile and calendula also provide the substance.
