Symptoms of allergies of the ENT canal
The ear, nose and throat in our body are interconnected by a single pipe. As a result, any problem that affects one of these organs will naturally have an effect on the other two as well. Allergies of the ENT canal show up in the form of sneezing, watering of eyes and nose and stuffiness which cause difficulty to breathe. If you find yourself suffering from a cold that never seems to yield, it may be due to an allergy that the symptoms are present.

The primary symptoms of allergies are sneezing and sniffing. It can also manifest in the form of a sore throat, breathlessness and hoarse sound or cough.

What triggers allergic reactions in the ENT canal?
Allergies are caused by substances called allergens. Although a person may be affected by an allergen, it needn’t affect all people. The sensitivity of a person to a particular allergen may be high, which is why it causes an allergy in him or her. Not all allergens may trigger a reaction in the sufferer. Identifying what is the source of an allergy can help you to obtain relief from it, contain it and avoid the allergen that triggers this reaction.

Common allergens include pollen from grass, flowers, or trees. Animal by-products, like hair, feathers or dander may cause allergies as well. Yet another household cause of allergies may be mold, mildew or dust. Certain food substances may also trigger allergies in people. The possibility of developing allergies is enhanced if members of your family have greater occurrences of allergies.

Relief from allergies
Luckily most nasal canal allergies can be treated effectively. There are medications called antihistamines or decongestants that target allergy relief. If the allergy is caused by a medication or food product, avoiding the consumption of it can provide the required relief. Also, nasal allergies that are triggered by pollen or seasonal plant produce can be avoided by shifting elsewhere during that season, or ensuring that you do not come in contact with the concerned allergen by adopting suitable steps.

If your allergy is getting out of control, it may help you to take a couple of allergy shots. Immunotherapy, as this method is called will expose the body to a small dosage of the allergen, which allows it to build up its immunity response against it. As a result, you will be spared discomfort if you are further exposed to the same substance in the future. If a running nose or hoarse throat fails to clear up in due time, you should suspect it to be an allergy of the ear, nose or throat track and take suitable steps to arrest it in time.
