Not the only question that assails us with a cyst, what are harmless? Cysts are located under the skin and are usually the result of the blockage of the ducts of the sebaceous glands or hair follicles clogged.

The most common skin cyst is the epidermal or sebaceous. Before you remove the cysts, when only about a cosmetic issue, assess the importance of the scar. If in doubt, always consult your doctor, in this case the dermatologist.

Cysts are generally referred to the lumps that form under the skin, but also can try benign tumors of the adipose tissue. Specifically, it is called lipomas, which are usually soft to the touch, rarely hurt and are usually discovered by accident.



Why cysts go out? As noted, the cysts are often the result of obstruction of the ducts of the sebaceous glands or hair follicles. Noticeable just below the surface of the skin and their content is not exactly fat but keratin produced by flaking of the skin and is accumulated therein.

For its part, the tumors usually appear by the overgrowth of the cells that are responsible for storing fat under the skin, as in the majority of tumors; its origin is still throwing some unanswered questions.




Skin cysts are usually well defined by an envelope called capsule, formed by the dilation of the walls of the blocked glands. The cysts, to be formations of the skin, are usually attached to it, contrary to what happens with tumors that do not stick to the skin and can be moved with relative ease.

Cysts can be opened to empty, although it may sometimes reappear, especially when the capsule is not removed. Meanwhile, in the case of tumors, may be removed for several reasons. One of them, for aesthetics, and another when its location can lead to complications. The tumors can occur in various parts of the body.

Skin Cysts: Types

The most common type of cyst is the epidermal or sebaceous, caused by a clogged sebaceous gland. You can become infected, but not serious. Sebaceous cysts may appear on the scalp, face, back, and other areas of the body. Not all shared in the same way, but some can grow or become infected. To find out if you are infected, some signs are the pain by pressing, redness, or warmth to feel the lump.

Pilonidal cyst, in turn, itself is often painful and is caused by infection, usually through small changes in the skin between the buttocks. When the bulge, a small soft nodule appears in the wrist, called ganglion, and can be resized in a few weeks. Sometimes even disappear spontaneously. In others, it may become an uncomfortable lump, so it may be necessary to surgery.
